Andrea Petersen (2007-2008 Rosalynn Carter fellow) investigated a group of scientists who are working to identify biomarkers that can direct patients diagnosed with depression to the medication or therapy that will help them most. One study from UCLA has shown that psychiatrists can predict with about 80% accuracy whether the treatment is likely to benefit the patient. Developing a physical test or scan that can predict which therapy could most efficiently help a patient diagnosed with depression has the potential to change the model of treatment.
