Fellowship Advisor
Aneri Pattani
Aneri Pattani is a senior correspondent at KFF Health News, a national nonprofit outlet, where she covers mental health, suicide, and substance use. She was a 2019-2020 Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism Fellow, and her project focused on college students’ mental health. She now serves on the fellowship’s advisory board.
Pattani has worked across print and audio platforms, from pioneering the mental health beat at the Philadelphia Inquirer to producing audio features and long-form interviews for NPR and Science Friday. Pattani’s multi-year series for KFF Health News about how state and local governments are spending billions in opioid settlement funds made her a finalist for the Livingston Award and Scripps Howard Award. The series was also featured on an episode of the late-night comedy show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Pattani received a bachelor’s in journalism from Northeastern University and a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University. Her master’s work focused on suicide prevention and included the creation of a free online course to teach journalists how to responsibly report on suicide.
